On November 6,2025, the Executive Director of School Support and Operations, Dr. Buffie Whitfield, visited AMS to meet with our principal, a group of students, and to tour some of the classes AMS has to offer. Whitfield met with seventh graders Layxa Campos, Charlotte Espinoza, Esthiven Rosario, and Steven Vargas, and ninth graders Saray Morales, Freddy Peres, and Jeremia Serverino. When asked about her impressions of AMS, Dr. Whitfield said, “I think AMS is a loving, nurturing community where students and staff members care about one another, which is evidenced by the conversations with students and also conversations with the staff here.”
When questioned about upcoming programs for the school that will benefit students, Whitfield said, “There are many programs to benefit the students. One of the things that AMS is doing is that they have implemented screeners, such as iReady, and they also have different intervention programs to really support the development of reading, as well as mathematics, numeracy.” On the topic of how she believes Zohran Mamdani being mayor will impact school communities or programs, she had no comment at this time.
