On select mornings, whether it’s Halloween, Christmas, or Thanksgiving you can find Ms. Helen Leshinky and Ms. Colleen Castillo in the downstairs atrium with a large SmartBoard displaying a selection of songs, gathering a crowd of both teachers and students telling them to come sing their hearts out! How did this start? “Ms. Leshinsky brought up a great idea of doing karaoke, but at a time where it did not make any sense,” said Ms. Castillo. “Somehow we started talking about how we can include more people, and the next thing you knew it became something we do before breaks and holidays!”
The first two karaoke sessions were smaller affairs, but at the latest one, before the holiday break, many people sang. Eighth grader Kameron Williams, even did a rendition of “I Want it That Way” by the Backstreet Boys. Will there be a session before winter break on February 13th? Stay tuned, and warm up your vocal chords just in case!
