Mr. Madison, a teacher at AMS, has had a massive impact on all of our lives as AMS students. Mr. Scultz, our gym teacher since we were in 6th grade, also has a gigantic impact on our time in AMS. They both work together in their advisory to push their students to do their best. We interviewed Mr. Madison and his advisees, Jadin Rodriguez and Kutubo Jaiteh, co-writer of this article, about how the advisory stands out.
During an interview, Mr. Madison described his advisory as “a whirlwind.” He added, “There is never a dull moment in my advisory.” Many advisors fail to achieve this, as students who aren’t even in the advisory still choose to go to Mr. Madison’s advisory because of the atmosphere, with many students calling Mr. Madison their “school dad” as he advocates for every single one of his students. This is what earned him this advisory spotlight.
From Kutubo’s personal experience, “Madison and Schutlz have always been looking out for me, like helping me to go on trips such as our advisory hibachi trip, giving me extensions on certain assignments, and just checking up on me mentally, so I have a deep respect for them.”
Jadin Rodriguez describes how “usually, Schultz asks us like, ‘Hey, how are you doing?’” It is very clear that Schutlz and Madison care for their students.
Overall, would say that Madison’s advisory is one of the best-known. Hopefully, the new ninth graders coming to AMS next year get the same experience in their advisory as the current senior advisors.
