Volleyball is an exhilarating sport for those who love it. On February 12th, The Urban Assembly School for Applied Math and Science girls’ volleyball team played against The Urban Assembly School for Global Commerce in Manhattan. When a volleyball team wins, it’s because of their hard work, dedication, and communication skills.
The bond between the players emerged as they embarked on this journey to the tournament. The feeling of winning often comes with nervousness, elation, and relief. After leading her team to victory in the championship game, volleyball star Violet Veras, a sophomore, reflected on her personal achievements throughout the season: “I felt accomplished with myself with taking last year, my freshman year, as a start on the team and showing my improvement on the court made me really happy.”
Lesly Yepez, a senior, said, “Honestly, it feels really good considering that me and the girls worked really hard for this championship. And we did it. Mainly for the seniors who couldn’t be with us to win it.”
This achievement demonstrates enormous growth by the team. It was quite difficult for them when they first started. The season began with high expectations, but the road to being a champion was not easy since it came with a lot of pressure. Head coach William Mensah said “ We were really strong on our serves that game. There were a lot of aces. I’m real proud of them.”
