Should phones be considered drugs? Electronic devices nowadays control human minds and they are considered addictive, especially to those at a young age. In order to prevent distractions and interruptions from your phone, Yondr was created. Yondr pouches are a secure bag that is used to keep your phone locked to avoid usage during events such as school, concerts, or even business meetings. Although many will argue that Yondr pouches are bad for business, their intentions are to help students avoid interacting with their phones during class. Yondr pouches should be used in order to achieve concentration, earn better grades, better grades in comparison to the year before, and socialize more with teachers and their peers.
One of the biggest concerns that educators all over the US have is the constant distraction in their classes caused by phones. Students tend to interrupt or distract themselves from their learning by watching YouTube, playing video games or even making tTik Toks in class. This is very disrespectful towards the teacher and the school. This all leads to the major issue that the students face, the lack of concentration. Concentration, the key to success, is one of the functions that Yondr offers for its buyers. Pouches are necessary “to keep students focused” stated Ms.Chung, our principal. Based on data from the Scientific American website, students have been more efficient in school by paying more attention in class and raising their grades.
Better grades and great concentration are what schools say are the reasons why Yondrs exist in their buildings. An example of how Yondr pouches have enhanced students’ learning can be seen with an AMS senior Albert Peralta. He stated how his grades have impacted his grade positively from being a 65-70’s student to a 75-80’s student. “It kept me away from my drug (my phone).” He and others claim that although his grades have been looking good, they worry a lot about their safety without their phones.
Although Yondr pouches keep students concentrated and improve students academically, it does not really keep them safe in emergency actions. School shootings are an issue in which Yondr pouches prevent students from being safe. Heather Hopp-Bruce of the Boston Globe argues that “phones were a lifeline for some students and families in school shooting situations, including the Parkland, Fl, and Great Mills, MD shooting in 2018, and the Uvalde, Texas, shooting in 2022.” In other words, Yondr pouches endanger the safety of the children. Students not having their phones in emergency situations like the ones mentioned above, where they were able to call the authorities and their parents is the reason why many parents disagree with the idea of using Yondr. Yondr’s may have proof for helping students academically by avoiding phones from distracting them, but they don’t guarantee safety in emergency circumstances.
Yondr pouches can be a challenge for those who just spend all of their time on their phones at home or depend on them to do their work. Although it may be hard for students, Yondr pouches can help students concentrate and cause us to receive the education we may not otherwise obtain to succeed in our next step in life. Yondr pouches have proven to help students improve their concentration not only in AMS but worldwide, proving how although they can cause some risky safety issues, they improve the students’ focus.
